Relearning the taste of words,
Anew spring forth the stepped
Pitter patter of warm breath cradled
Against the tongue, fluttered
Into song, shared tonally, emotively,
Rhythmically with wonder
With another.
The taste, the visceral body of a moment’s expression,
Of a perspective contained therein, that portion
Of yourself that escapes your intimate confines
Into outer space to be transformed, dissolved, and
Resurrected in another’s mind, to be rediscovered
In the return of another’s response.
Be there for me. I call towards the darkness,
Expelling my essence to be depleted,
To be renewed by your understanding,
By your empathy, by your commiserate passion.
We speak into the barren caverns between each other,
The echoes of our fears resounding in the implacable mountains
Of solitude surrounding us.
Let the words die, let them pass away slowly into silence,
And wait, your heart pounding,
And wait for something new that is created
In the meeting of singular voices,
In the cathedral spaces of each other,
In the hollows of our throats filling with possibilities
That can never quite fully be articulated.
We struggle to speak ourselves to each other.
